Baron Ricasoli has placed his resignation in the hands of

the King of Italy. No explanation has reached England, but we presume it to be this. Ricasoli is pledged to the Vatican to carry out his ecclesiastical scheme, but finds he cannot do it, his majority resisting this one measure almost en masse. He, there- fore, being as honourable as a Paladin, resigns to show that he has done his best honestly to keep his engagements. Unfor- tunately for Italy, his successor must be Rattazzi, who will put the Bureaus right, but get into some secret engagement or other with Napoleon.
