The Clergy Directory, 1895. (J. S. PhRlips.) — This is a volume

of convenient size and moderate price, with the usual information carefully brought up to date. We have to notice again the inconsistency of statement to be found in various publications of this kind as to the value of benefices. On the whole, it would be the best course, we are inclined to think, to state the nominal amount of tithe rent-charge, and to put in some prominent place the average of the current year, with, possibly, a table giving, for convenience' sake, the actual value of £10 nominal with the smaller figures. It would be easy to calculate the gross value of any benefice. Glebe, however, has to be considered. Fancy reductions are absurd. One benefice here is given at £200,—a sum which is neither the nominal value (£210) nor the actual (£155 circa).
