Sre,—In your issue of March 30th Mr. Arthur D. Lewis denies that Zionism "is merely Pan-Germanism under a subtle disguise." I recently was in many of the Jewish colonies in Palestine. All the books in their homes, except a very few in Hebrew, are printed in German, and I particularly noticed that all the texts hung on the walls are in the German language. Yiddish, a dialect of German with a smattering of Hebrew words, is the universal language of
