At the end of October. at Polock, in Lithuania, a man died aged one hundred and eighty-eight. He had seen seven monarchs on the throne of Russia. and served Gusta- vus Adolphus as a soldier dating the Thirty Years' War. At 93, he married his third wife, who lived fifty years with him, and bore him several children.
