The Lay of St. Aloys, by Thomas Ingoldeby, with the

Old Letters and New Illustrations of Ernest M. Jessop (Eyre and Spottiswoode) is sufficiently clever in its way. We must frankly own that our liking for Ingoldsby—putting aside an unbounded admiration for his ingenuity in rhyming—is but moderate. It can- not, therefore, be taken for high praise when we say that Mr. Jessop fitly interprets him.
