THE AGENCY GAME

SIR,—Mr. Leslie Adrian fairly says that not every good travel agent is a member of ABTA; he might well have added that ABTA only admits people %silo issue tickets, and that a number of agents refuse in- vitations to do this as a matter of policy, since they feel that a contractual obligation to both supplier and customer is liable to become ambiguous.

In my experience the vast majority of complaints in a well-run agency derive ultimately from the in- efficiencies of nationalised railways and airways, and the extremely cynical attitude which these ha \ e towards carrt ing out their advertisements. But no ABTA member could invite you to publish such a statement without endangering his ticket franehisoc, —Yours faithfully, DOUGLAS W. FR I■Nts LIN
