A GENEROUS BEQUEST.

„ • The City is always appreciative of generous recognition by testators of those who, in however small degree, may have aided the building up of the ,fortunes which have been left • behind. The announcement, therefore, that the late Lord Revelstoke's will provided for a year's salary to be given to each member of the permanent staff of Baring Bros. of at least three years' service, with a su,m equal to one year's pension

• to each retired like member who was in receipt of a pension at the time of the testator's .death, gave general satisfaction In financial circles. The generosity and the general character of the bequest was, however, regarded as thoroughly in harmony with the late Lord Revelstoke's character. Through- out his life, he was devoted to business in the best sense of the word, and achieved at one and the same time a great fortune and a reputation for honourable conduct far greater even than the fortune which he left behind. Incidentally, I notice that , by reason of the size of his estate, the Exchequer will benefit to the extent Of considerably over 11,000,000.
