Surely few works have received the honour of translation so

often as GOETHE'S 1'aust. Within some fifteen months we have acknowledged the receipt of four or five attempts; and lo here is another ! The most obvious distinctions of Dr. ANSTER'S trans- lation of Faustus, a Dramatic Mystery, seem to consist in the number and elaborate nature of the notes, and in the typographi- cal splendour of the volume. It also contains the Bride of Corinth, and the First Thdpurgis Night. Of the general merit of the execution and capabilities of the author, it is scarcely neces- sary to speak, after the praise Mr. Havwaen has bestowed upon the specimens published in Blackwood so early as I s20; a notice, indeed, which seems to have induced the publication of the whole poem.
