The General Election in New South Wales was held this

week. Three years ago a coalition of Nationalists and Progressives under Sir George Fuller defeated the Labour Party, but differences have appeared between them that prevented their working together again in coalition. A good deal of cross-voting must have been caused by the heated feeling that has arisen over the Marriage Act Amendment Bill since the Roman Catholics see in it an -intention to nullify the effects of the " Ne Temere " Decree concerning mixed marriages. The Labour Party gained six seats, winning forty-three in all, against thirty-one held by the Nationalists. Thus they are the largest party, but without a clear majority unless they are supported by two independents and six " doubtfuls."
