SPECTATOR COMPETITION No. 434 • Set by Allan M. Laing

Robert Browning once rhymed 'Manchester' with qutundies stir' and, I believe, 'homunculus' with 'Tommy-make-room-for-your-uncle us.' This week competitors are asked for not more than a dozen lines of verse on any subject, making use of similar complicated and ingenious rhymes. Humour and readability will be the prize-winning qualities looked for. Prize: six guineas. Entries, addressed 'Spectator Competition No. 434,' 99 Gower Street, London, WCI, by June 17. Results on June 27.
