The beautiful people

Sir: As a pushbike rider of 30 years, I rarely have to travel on the Underground. An enforced trip on this odious method of transport was made more agreeable recent- ly by the across-the-lines poster for The Spectator. It shows the faces of most of your regular contributors, whose writing I have enjoyed and often disagreed with over the last three or four years.

Blow me down, they all look exactly as I had imagined them in my mind's eye. Even Taki. My only regret was the absence of a photograph of the good doctor Dalrymple and of Mary Killen, one of the great hero- ines of the 20th century. Dear Mary, I would like to know what you really look like. How can I obtain your likeness with- out causing you offence or invading your privacy? Perhaps she can advise me?
