Black death

From Dr J. L. Insley

Sir: Carefully not being snide, Mr I.. Clarke's (October 16) " official " death rate is still more than my official notifications of kwashiorkor for 1969. But at least he has now admitted that malnutrition is due In the wrong food rather than narthcid.

But these are small matters compared to the militant liberal view that universal franchise and black government must rapidly be extended south to the Cape. Will this feed or educate one child? Raise the standard of living for anyone? Or even be possible without widespread bloodshed and consequent economic chaos? I ' doubt it. There never was a situation where evolution, not revolution, was more needed, and unhappily the militant liberals don't seem to wish to allow this to occur. I reiterate, this is not Europe's business, but ours, who must live with the realities. Left to burselves, through widening education and hard work, we can eventually create a happier scene in Southern Africa, but not if we are continually deflected towards the wrong priorities by foreign pressures which only confirm the right wing in the rectitude of their beliefs.
