Dry rot

Sir: We do, of course, applaud the opening paragraph of Skinflint's City Diary (October 9) but We must point out that when the drY rot work was originally carried out we did our utmost to persuade the Ministry to use our specialist service.

They preferred to use their owo direct labour force — and they are doing the same to deal with the present outbreak. It seems strange to us that government dedicated to private enterprise should always insist on running its own direct labour force to look after its own properties it would be interesting to note the total annual cost of the present labour force employed.

May I however take this opportunity of correcting Skinflint; Our guarantee is for twenty gni not ten years — which of course adds even more strength to Your argument, A. C. Farrington Rentokil Laboratories Ltd, Felcourt, East Grinstead, Sussex
