In the course of his statements before starting for Geneva,

Mr. MacDonald gave a good example of his close touch with realities when he emphasized the importance of meeting the demand for Security. To many people the word " Security " has become almost a pseudonym for M. Poincare's jingoism. M. Poincare must be blamed largely for this confusion of thought, but the French demand for Security is a perfectly natural one, and it has long been clear to us that unless it is met there will be no hope of permanent peace.
