Bygone Eton, 1622 - 1905. By R. A. Austen Leigh. (Spottiswoode and

Co. 21s.)—Here we have between forty and fifty picturings of Eton buildings and Eton surroundings. Some of them repre- sent houses, bridges, &c., which have entirely disappeared. Others —and perhaps these are the most interesting of the whole—show changes of building, dress, and manners generally. There is a hoop lying on a grass-plot. A few places are unchanged. Very rightly, the Library is one of these. A picture of the "Montem " of 1852 certainly inspires no regret. We need hardly say that both by Etonians and by outsiders this volume will be found full of interest.
