The Skylark. The Poetry by the Ettrick Shepherd; the Musk by Mr. Wilson.

This song was sung by Mr. Wilson in his new entertainment consisting of selections from the works of the Ettrick Shepherd. The melody, com- posed by Wilson himself, is quite Scottish in style and character, but some- what more extended than the old airs generally are. It is very polished and graceful, and admirably adapted to the poet's sweet and fanciful verses. The regular construction of the air has enabled Mr. Wilson to clothe it with a florid and brilliant accompaniment, imitative of the warbling of the skylark; which has a happy effect. The song is transposed from the key of B flat, in which Mr. Wilson sings it, to that of G, which brings it within the reach of ordinary voices.
