M. Millerand defended the Spa agreement in the French Chamber

on Friday week, and received a vote of approval by 356 votes to 169, despite the severe criticisms of the Parisian Press. The agreement, he said, would secure to France four- fifths of the coal that she needed to import, at a, price less by a fifth than the current price. The Allies were resolved to supply Germany with food, and France, in agreeing to help, had obtained a guarantee that she would receive the coal. Never, said M. Millerand, was the closest agreement between the Allies more necessary than now, both to enforce the Peace Treaty and to save Poland.
