THE SIXTH OF JUNE

Sia,—My copy of the Spectator of June 5 has just arrived in New Zealand. I write to say how much I enjoyed fain Macleod's article on D-Day, especially his description of the 50th Division as 'the finest fighting Division in the Army.' That, of course, is prejudice—the honour really belonged to the 5th Division, then fighting for Rome. But we had the feeling in Sicily and Italy that the 50th Division got a very raw deal and I am glad to see someone pay- ing tribute at last to a magnificent fighting force.
