The Chronicle this morning resumes the soothing strain towards O'Connell.

It is admitted that England has a "thick hide of apathy and indifference " ; but the feeling towards Ireland is improved ; and it is suggested that it would be more prudent to encourage that feeling, in- stead of repelling it by breaking the rather new promise not to abuse " the Saxon." O'Connell and the Whigs might be very useful to each other ; but what a pity it is that he is so excessively, so unnecessarily noisy! Such is the drift of the soother's objurgation, which attempts to set a high-water-mark to the turbulent ocean of O'Connell's eloquence.
