There was last night the most terrible fire in London

that has been seen there for some years, Her Majesty's Theatre took fire, and the fire illuminated the top tier of Somerset House—at least a mile off—as brilliantly as a hill-top is illuminated by the setting sun, and the spire of St. Martin's Church stood out in the grandest relief against the bright background.
