Going West I have played my part, I must admit,

in jeering at the 'Come-to-Sunny-Britain' type of advertise- ment that portrays us abroad as simple seven- teenth-century folk who have the haggis piped in to dinner each evening in our thatched cot- tages. So I was amused to learn that similar cries of scorn were heard in the United States when those vast advertisements first appeared over here advertising holidays in the States at £35 per week, with prospects of seeing the Grand Canyon, Times Square, the Santa Fe Railway, and the Kennedy family. But handsome is as handsome does, and both campaigns are doing very well, Over seventy thousand visas to America have been issued already this year, an increase of 30 per cent., and a new campaign on the £35 per week type of theme is expected to boost things still further.
