IRELAND.
A foolish panic prevails in Cork from. an. apprehension that Sir. Robert Peers measures will produce ruinously low prices for corn and cattle. The Cork Reporter of Tuesday says—
"-Such has been the effect on the markets in this city, In consequence Of the enunciation of the intended change in the Corn-laws, that they are at present flooded with provisions. At Saturday's potato-market there were 400 loads brought in for sale, against 307 the previous week; and every anxiety was evinced to dispose of them even at reduced prices. The cattle-market on Saturday was also crowded with beasts of all descriptions.; there being over 2,000 pigs on sale, and offering at a reductiowof 3s. a hundredweight on the previousday's prices; yet buyers did not evince any desire to purchase even on those terms, and many of there left the market unsold. The number in the market yesterday twelve- months was 800; yesterday it amounted to 1,300. Black cattle and sheep were exhibited in proportionably large numbers." The panic has been confined to Cork and its immediate neighbourhood. In Dublin, prices have been kept up, and a rise instead of a fall is came late(' upon.
At the weekly meeting of the Repeal Association, on Monday, the core- version of Sir Robert Peel to the doctrines of Free Trade was deemed en- couraging to the cause of Irish Repeal. Mr. Smith O'Brien, asserted that he should not be the least surprised if Sir Robert Peel were to state in the House of Commons, some of these days, that in resisting the call for Re- peal he had acted in error, and was now ready to confer on the Irish people the boon of self-government. The success of the .Anti-Corn-lase agitation should prove the best incentive to the Irish Repealers to persevere in theirs. Mr. Steele denounced and repudiated resolutions lately brought under the consideration of the American Congress recommending the annexation of Ireland to the United States.
