Illustrations des Miserables.-This volume, which contains no letter- press whatever,

not even a title-page, consists of a collection of twenty- Eve photographs, taken apparently from drawings by M. G. Brion, illustrative of various scenes and characters in Victor Hugo's great work. The photographs, which are executed by M. Gilmer, are ex- ceedingly good ; and the artist appears to us to have been in almost every case very successful in embodying the conception of his author. Of the single figures, quite the best is that of Eponine, who is repre- sented just as she is entering Marius's room, -.7ith the letter in her hand ; while, perhaps, the most striking of the scenes is that in which old Fauchelevent is liberating Jean Valjean from his temporary con- finement iu the coffin. The drawings are full of character, and do M. Brion the greatest credit.
