The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have formed a Committee

to consider the relations of Church and State. The Committee comes into existence in response to a resolu- tion carried unanimously by the Representative Church Council in July, 1913, to the effect that there is no inconsis- tency between a national recognition of religion and the enjoyment of a wider spiritual independence by the Church. Lord Selborne is Chairman of the Committee, which includes, among others, the Bishops of Bristol, Oxford, and Liverpool, Mr. Balfour, the Duke of Devonshire, Lord Parmoor, Lord Wollner, Sir William Anson, Sir Lewis Dibdin, and Lord Hugh Cecil.
