The Story of the Massachusetts Committee of Public Safely. (Boston

: Wright and Potter.)—This substantial volume gives a detailed account of the semi-official organization through which the people of Massachusetts helped the Federal and State Governments in the war. The Governor nominated a hundred leading citizens of all parties and creeds, and they in turn elaborated a wonderful voluntary machinery. The Committee took a lively interest in recruiting, in Federal loans, in the settlement of labour disputes, in the voluntary food rationing, in the conservation of fuel, and so on. Massachusetts may be proud of the record.
