We have dealt elsewhere with the possibilities of Abdel Krim's

sudden rise to political fame and fortune, but must notice here the week's news as to his successes. Raisuli; once invincible, has surrendered his stronghold to Abdel Krim. Curiously enough, it was the Rifis' victory over Spain which caused the trouble between them and Raisuli and the tribes under him. As long as they had a common enemy to attack and pillage there was no ill- feeling ; but directly the Rifis prevailed over the Spaniards Abdel Krim began to bully the Jabalas, who then brought in a third man in the shape of Raisuli. He, it will be remembered, had long been pro-Spanish.
