DISTURBING INFLUENCES.

Elsewhere most of the influences operating have been against holders of stocks. English railways continue under the influence of poor traffics and the wages dispute, while Industrials are affected by the general depression and Trans. atlantic Industrials by the unsatisfactory conditions in the United States. Brazilian Loans have reacted owing to vague reports of fresh political disturbances in one of the Brazilian States, but Australian Loans have been a little better owing to the Labour defeat at the by-election in New South Wales. One of the brightest spots in markets recently has been the greater activity and strength of South African Mining shares owing to a revival of Paris support, but at the time of writing even that market is reacting a little.
