The Collegiate Institution for the education of the youth of

Liver- pool, was opened yesterday, with great eclat. Lord Stanley was to have attended, but was kept away by public business. The proceedings, however, were graced by the presence of the Bishop of Chester, Sir Howard Douglas, and Mr. William Ewart Gladstone ; the last of whom delivered an inaugural address, reported in ertenao by the Standard: the gist of it is, that education should be based upon religious instruction.
