MONEY MARKET.

The English Market opened on Monday last at the closing quotations of the previous Saturday, showing great firmness throughout the day. Large arrivals of specie continued to keep the Market firm in the absence of any adverse political news. But for the panic which existed lately on the French Bourse and the continued downward movement in Rentes, it is more than likely we should have better markets here. Money has been in active demand, but there is a good supply on the Stock Exchange at about 2 21 per cent. Consols have been 95f f and 951 4 all the week, closing at the former figures. No extensive business has been negotiated, but the public continue making small but frequent investments. Bank Stock leaves off 227 229. Consols for the opening 951 951. East India debentures (1858 and 1859), 984 99. Reduced and New Three per Cents, 954 sq. The re- signation of Count Walewski was considered favourable, and securities be- came firmer, but little business has since been doing. Exchequer Bills mark 32.s. and 298.

Foreign Stocks have been moderately dealt in, and prices upon the whole are better, especially in Buenos Ayres and Turkish; the former having ad- vanced to 81 86, and the latter Old Six per Cents to 781 79; and the New to 654 66,; Buenos Ayres Throe per Cents are likewise better 21 22; Venezuela ex-dividend, 271 274; Grenada, 161 17f; Chilian Six per Cents, 103 105; Ditto, Four-and-a-half per Cents, 8890. Money has been easy in this market at about former rates. Portuguese, 441 444; Russian Five per Cents, 109 110; Spanish, 131 44 ex div. Victor Emmanuel bonds have been again in demand and are quoted, 92 93 ex div. • Sardinian Stock, 84 86 ; Mexican has fluctuated between 221 221 and 2124 22f, leaving off 221 224. Prices are good all round. Railway Shares have again been in the ascendant, and it will be observed that the principal lines are at an improvement which averages at least 11 per cent. Great Western, 701 704; Caledonian, 941 95; Midland, 1101 1101; London and North-Western, 991 991 • London and South-Western, 981 984 ; Great Northern, 107 108. The traffic returns of this week are of a most favourable description, particularly in Midland and Lancashire and Yorkshire, the market price for the latter being 1021 1024; Eastern Coun- ties, 574 584; London and Brighton, 1144 1154; North Staffordshire, 31 31 discount; Berwick, 944 95'; North British, 634 64; Chester and Holyhead, 504 51. The next settling day will not take place till the 17th instant.

French Shares have been depressed and fallen a good deal, owing to the decline in Paris and the heavy character of the late settling, which caused a considerable number of failures there. Lombardo-Venetian from 34 pm. are now 21 2.1, after being settlers at 2/. Northern of France ex. dividend, 361 37; Pans and Strasbourg, 25 26; Paris and Lyons, 36 364; Sambre and Meuse, 61- Great Luxembourg, 7 71. Indian Stocks and Shares re- main steady. East Indian, 1031 1041; Great Indian Peninsula, 1011 1021; Madras, 101 102; Bombay Stock, 100 101. The list of applications for the New Turkish Bank will close tomorrow (Saturday) at one o'clock. A considerable amount of business has been done in the shares since the prospectus was issued a few days since. The Bank has been in course of formation for the last two years. The Directors are of the highest respectability both here and in Turkey, the Greek in- terest prevailing. The closing quotation tonight is a 1 pm. and have been lately as high as 11 14 pm, SATURDAY, TWELVR o'Cmea.

Consols opened a degree better this morning, 951 ; the tone of the Market is much firmer. Foreign Stocks without alteration. English Rail- way Shares are 1 and 4 higher all round. French Shares as last quoted, Business generally quiet.
