The French Government received, on Thursday, telegraphic despatches from Rome

to the 2d instant, stating that the Roman deputation had made overtures of submission; that the gates of San Paolo, Portese, and San Pancrazio, had at that instant been opened to the French army; and that everything induced the belief "that the French army will be received at Rome on conditions conformable to the intentions and the interests of France,"—particulars not in perfect har- mony with each other.

The Paris advice-s of yesterday evening say that General 136cleau had stopped at Marseilles, for further orders as to going on to Rome.

The elections for Paris take place tomorrow, with prospects favourable to the Moderate candidates.

A brilliant star was visible at Paris on Tuesday during the full strength of the sunshine; attracting the attention of large groups of spectators.

By a royal decree, dated Turin, June 30, the Sardinian Parliament is convoked for July 30. The elections are to commence on the 15th in Piedmont,and on the 22d in Sardinia.

The Russians are said to have entered Transylvania and advanced as far as Bistritz, worsting an opposing Hungarian force on their way.

Hostilities had been resumed against Venice; the terms of capitulation con- ceded being such as General Pepe would not hear of. In a successful sortie the Venetians had captured two Austrian Generals and many troops.

We understand that Colonel Reid, late Governor of the Leeward Islands, and the scientific author of what may now be called the Theory of Storms, is appointed to succeed the late Colonel English as commanding officer of Engineers at Wool- wich.—Morning Chronicle.
