It was announced on Monday, a e a pendant to

the Austrian Treaty, that Great Britain had recognized the new kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. The frontiers of this State have yet to be fixed. The partition of the Banat with Rumania and the delimitation of the Macedonian and Albanian borders are just as much vexed questions as the problem of Fiume and Dalmatia. We have great sympathy with the Southern Slave, who were the first victims of the war, but we cannot help wishing that they would display a more conciliatory spirit towards their neighbours and allies, to whose efforts they owe in no small degree their liberation from German bondage.: Much of the delay at. the Peace Conference has been caused by the unwise tendency of the Southern Slays to press their national claims to the uttermost.
