A good night out

Sir: Barry Humphries has asked a ques- tion,Was Alfred Hitchcock blind?' (Diary, 31 May) which far too many people have left unasked for, surely, far too long.

We go in our droves to see these long, boring films which we do not enjoy, but which we feel might be in some subcultural way a part of life itself (although not, of course, in any way that Fritz Lang would have understood), and we come out and, over the vindaloo, ask each other, 'Well, just how plain bloody silly was Vertigo, eh?'
