A. steeple-chase, which, we are assured, " has absorbed the

entire at. tention of the sporting world," and not only of sportsmen but of "all Eng. land," came off on Thursday, in the vicinity of Liverpool. Thirteen horses started. The riders seem to have been jockies, or trainers, or people of that description, with one exception—the most noble Mar- quis of Waterford, who rode his own horse, The Sea. In attempting to leap an " artificial stone wall," five feet two inches high, several horses fell, and their riders were severely hurt. The name of the wim ning horse was Jerry, rider's name Brotherton.
