The Faber Book of Nursery Songs selected by Donald Mitchell, arranged by Carey Blyton, illustrated by Alan Howard (Faber 36s). Ninety nursery songs handsomely laid out,, with piano accompaniment and guidance for some other musical participation, chiefly percussion, and with many illustrations; an admirable venture, but one which will disappoint many because the accompaniments; while avoiding 'routine settings,' too often fall disappointingly on the ear.

Tavistock Abbey H. P. R. Finberg (David and Charles 63s). This is the history of an Old English monastic foundation from its foun- dation to its dissolution in the sixteenth century, when it helped set up one of the Tudor 'new men'—John, first Baron Russell. It was first published eighteen years ago but fully justifies reissue because it is one of the books (written chiefly by Dr Finberg and his colleague Dr W. G. Hoskins) that have helped to revolutionise the teaching of local history in England.

New Revolutionaries: Left Opposition edited by Tariq All (Peter Owen 38s). At last a handy knapsack manual designed to set a sub- versive sparkle in every infant guerrillero's eye. The frontispiece depicts a handsome recipe for a Molotov cocktail—and there is much powerful, passionate and carefully plotted writ- ing culled from the best of Castro, Debray, Cleaver and their peers.
