TIECK'S Tales of the " Old Man of the Mountain,"

"The Love Charm," and " Pietro of Abano," are another unsuccessful at- tempt at German translation. Whether the beauties of that lan- guage are untranslateable, and possess some native charm, or that it requires a kindred spirit to transfer the German effect, true it is, that nearly all the attempts that are made fall dull and lifeless from the hands of the translator._ We consider the present by no means an exception to the censure.
