Absurdities

Sir: Who can say why the Deutsche Grain- mophon Brahms edition has put A.S; Henry's nose out of joint (Letters, I° April), unless to manufacture another non- issue for his peculiar column? In fact the comprehensive recording of the vocal i music, on 25 moderately priced records, s one of the most exciting additions to the catalogue of the LP era. If Mr Henry Is, really familiar with more than a fraction 0, this music he is doing better than irwst Brahmsians have done till now — if not' how can he make an intelligent comparison of Brahms's output as a whole with the microscopic and unneglected oeuvre of An- ton Webern? His ultimate absurdity, however, is t° dispraise Deutsche Grammophon inrela; lion to Decca. Both are subsidiaries 0/ Philips.
