Last Sunday Mr. Asquith paid a surprise visit to the

War Prisoners' Camp at Newbury. He inspected all the com- pounds, tents, and cooking arrarigements. He was much impressed by the comfort and orderliness of the camp. Some of the prisoners at once recognized him, and an improvised demonstration took place. The prisoners began to cheer. This was not allowed to continue, but the tribute was a genuine proof that they recognize the attention which is being bestowed on their well-being.
