which is possessed of most endurance or can bring up and fling fresh forces into the fray. . . . Though we have undoubtedly inflicted immense loss upon the enemy, they have so far been able to fill up the gaps in their ranks." In other words, the need is men, men, men. And it cannot be pre- tended, after what the eyewitness has written, that the very highest degree of training will be necessary to make our fresh troops a match for the new German levies.
