Human rights in Israel

Sir: I do not see what is to be gained by such articles as that from 'Israel Amos' on the one country in the Middle East that understands human rights. Israel is equivalent to Britain in its basic attitude to people, but Israel is at war with enemies who are not interested in peace. No government is perfect and neither are human beings. If Mr Amos must point a finger why doesn't he do so at the rest of the Middle East where bribery, corruption, military and political dictatorship, slavery and drug trafficking are all part of the daily life. As for prisons, would Mr Amos really like to be in jail in any other country but Israel in the Middle East, especially if he were an Israeli? I am not con- cerned in this letter with the Arab- Israeli conflict but with people, how they live and how they treat each other. The Palestinians boast of their murders of innocent people at airports. Maybe all those flowing robes and dark glasses mean something to Mr Amos but it is unlikely to be love of humanity and democracy for all that is hidden away behind those glasses.
