Malthusiana

Sir: I am writing a life of Thomas Robert 'Population' Malthus (1766-1834). You may be surprised to learn that no full-length bio- graphy of him exists, and I find that many aspects of his life are inadequately documented. I have received valuable help from the descendants of the Malthus, Bray and Eckersall families, and also from the British Academy, but believe that there may still be unpublished papers in private ownership; these might include the youthful letters lent by the late Colonel Malthus to the late Dr Bonar, and since lost, and letters written by 'Old Pop' to his former pupils when they were in India.

The copyright of Malthus's un- published letters belongs to his great-great-nephew, Mr Robert Malthus, who has kindly allowed me to make full use of all family papers. Should any of your readers possess some Malthusiana, I would be most grateful to hear about it, and would of course pay for the copying of the documents and any other expenses.
