The Registration proceeds pretty much as we had expected. In

the Metropolis, and the neighbouring counties and boroughs, no material alteration will be made. Generally, it would seem from the imperfect reports which are given, the Tories have been more successful than the Liberals in establishing claims and objections. From both sides, complaints of the obstacles which the Reform Act puts in the way of acquiring the franchise are incessant. It is common to find the Revising Barrister expressing his regret at the absurdity and injustice or the law, which admits of such nice distinctions, that it might have been framed for the sole purpose of perplexing plain men and furnishing employment to attormes. It must, however, be observed, that not unfrequently the Bar- risters are themselves in fault; encouraging technical objections, whose Iscussion requires time and spins out a profitable job.
