MONEY MARKET.

STOOK EXCHANGE. FRIDAY ARM/MOON.

Thedefegtof tine Russians on the heights-of the Alma, and the alleged capture of Sebastopol, caused intense excitement during the early part of this week. The operations of the forces have been carried on with greater rapidity than was expected, although a great victory at no distant period was looked for ; and the fact that events are often discounted on the Stack Exchange will in a great measure account for the comparatively slight im- provement in Government Securities en Monday, and which has not been maintained. Console for Money opened that morning 3 higher, and were done at 951, closing 1 lower. Before the regular business commenced, some bargains were made for the Account as high as 961: lower prices afterwards prevailed, arisingfrom suspense through want ef official information regarding the fate of Sebastopol, (the fall of which was yesterday contradicted,) and an uneasy feeling connected with-the commercial difficulties in Liverpool. On Wednesday, Consols left off at 95/*; and yesterday they descended to 941 5; to which they returned on the publication of thedespatch from Lord Stratford, after haring rallied 1. The-demand for money has been rather less; and is like- ly to be easier now, since the heavy paymenteon mercantile bills that became slue on the 4th instant have-been disposed of, and from the additional capital that will be afloat next week on receipt of the Bank dividends. The Conti- nental exchanges generally continue favourable, and have reached a point that would render the exportation of gold unprofitable. The fluctuations on the Paris Bourse have been moderate. The arrivals of gold and specie this week have comprised 247,600/. from New York, 180,0001. from the West In- dies, about 30,000/. by the African steamer, and 1081. from Australia. The shipments for India, Chins, and Alexandria, have amounted to 90,4661., chiefly in silver. The Corn-market has been steady. Today the Fn.ndshave improved 1; but there has been very little business transacted. Consols for Money leave off at 95 1, and for Account at 95/ 1. Exchequer Bills are Is. lower this week. India Stock has not altered. Ex- chequer Bonds continue at 991 100. In Foreign Stoeka, thetransactions have hot been important, but more firm- ness has been exhibited this week, and the following have improved—Peru- vian Three per Cents, 13; Ditto Four-and-a-half per Cents, and Buenos Ayres, 1. The-dividend on Mexican, due on the 1st of January 1853, has been advertised for payment. The accounts from that country by the last packet were more favourable regarding the prospects of the Government, and suppression of the attempted insurrection. The Stock is f higher. Turkish Scrip advanced on-Monday nearly 1 per cent, on the news from the Crimea, and was done at 41: it has since been governed in a great measure by Console, and yesterday and today closed heavily at 31. Russian Stocks have been hat both here and in Amsterdam : the Five per Cents have fallen 3, and the Four-and-a-half per Cents 2. Brazilian is lower. Railways were. favourably influenced on Monday by the rise in Consols, and .an improvement of 5.s. to 158. occurred in the principal Shares : the market has _since shown weakness; yesterday, Great Western receded to 713 2, and London and North-Western to 1014 2. At the close the differ- ence in some of the leading lines compared with last Saturday's was to the following extent. Increase—Lancashire and Yorkshire, 151. ; Great North- ern, and Midland, 108..; Great Western, and London and North-Western, 5s. Decrease—Caledonian, North-Eastern—Berwick, and South Wales, 10s. In Foreign Shares, an improvement has occurred in the following—Paris and Orleans, 11. ; Great Western of Canada, and Rouen and Havre, 10s.; Sambre and Meuse, and Western of France, 5s. Northern of Prance has fallen 5a. Today the Engliah lines are a.little lower. Foreign Shares have not altered.
