Transport of disgust

From Mr John Henson Sir: Carole Caldwell (Letters, 23 Septem- ber) states that she would like to see

`drivers out of their cars and on to buses, trains or other modes of transport'. I have the pleasure of using the London Under- ground between Paddington and Barbican daily, and find it to be dangerously over- crowded, extremely unreliable and filthy.

Perhaps Dr Caldwell would like to tell us how she thinks London's public transport system would cope with an increased vol- ume of passengers?
