The news from Spain is meagre, but important. Don CAELos,

with a large army, has crossed the Ebro at two places ; and by this time he may be in full march on Madrid. ESPARTERO is re- ported to have been at length alarmed, and to have gone in pur- suit of the Pretender.

Some apprehension existed at Madrid, from the progress of the Carlists. A new levy of soldiers was ordered, mid the Ministers were urged by a large number of the Deputies to the Cortes to take decisive measures for the preservation of the Queen's throne. But, in reply to such remonstrances, MENPIZABAL showed de- mands from the troops already in the field, for pay, shoes, and food, and then an empty treasury.
