MR PETER WALKER is showing as sure a political touch as anybody these days. Having kept his head nicely down over nasty economic and industrial troubles, he has popped up to clobber waste dumping and the like. The timing of his attack on Centre Point had a touch of firmness but the threats to act were neatly veiled and certainly not immediate. Should go far this young chap.

PUZZLE INFORMS an excited populace that Mr Dennis Skinner of the constituency of Bolsover has not been involved in a Parliamentary scene for the last fortyeight hours.

PUZZLE IS CONCERNED about all the threats of a wage freeze or a compulsory incomes policy. Has not the PM gone around for years now telling us that it simply does not work. Why threaten the unions with something that does not work? Most confusing.

PUZZLE IS NOT a chap to flinch when it comes to knocking politicians around. But he was distinctly unamused by the random reflections on politicians by the self-confessed astronomical eccentric Mr Patrick Moore on a television chat show. Between playing the piano badly and another interview with a girl who is distinguished by having appeared nude in the pages of the Times, the television astronomer vouchsafed the view that he would like to fire politicians into space but they would pollute the atmosphere. This was good for a cheap laugh. He then went on to say that he wanted blood sports banned but would not demonstrate against them. Presumably he would not even write to his MP. Mr Moore said he considered himself an amateur at astronomy.
