Thu Convention of the regular Republican party, which met at

Philadelphia, on the 5th June, has unanimously recommended -President Grant for re-election, and Senator Wilson, of Massa- chusetts, for Vice-President. It has also accepted a "plat- form" declaring that it upholds the constitutional amendments and an honourable peace with all nations, the reform of the Civil Service, the reduction of debt, and the maintenance of pro- tective duties. The party is anxious for a return to specie pay- ments, and desires that female suffrage should be "respectfully considered." The action of the President in the South is ap- proved, as is also the "honourable compromise" by which he has averted threatening foreign difficulties.
