Voice of Parliament

We're afraid of the big silver screen; The mere thought of it turns us quite green.

We're not photogenic, Our looks aren't Hellenic, We'd rather be heard, and not seen.

Harold Bageyes considered they ought To be televised when deep in thought. To keep well in the swim, They could photograph him, Whenever they thought that they ought.

Maggie Hairspray said she didn't think She could always be quite in the pink. A cameraman's whim Could catch her off-trim, A nod was as bad as a wink.

Reggie said it would be a great bore, If he could be seen on the floor. Why then, Private Eye Could always espy, When he might indulge in a snore.

We should want to be seen on TV For today it's the sole place to be. Jim said he's be cosy,

And paint folks a rosy Oil-painting of what they should see.

We consider our voices are nice.

We'll oblige with a speech in a trice. But, by God, it's a pox To appear on the box; The sound, not the sight, should suffice.
