Q. Apropos the gentleman with a misshapen shoulder (22 February),

I had a distant cousin in France who had a similar problem with his shoulder because of a first world war injury. His tailor's solution was to envelop his upper torso in what amounted to a cocoon of stitched bandages. Once complete, the bandages would be cut open and restitched after inserting an inflatable rubber bladder within, rather like the inner tube of a car tyre. The tailor would then inflate the bladder and the bandages would replicate his shape. His suits always fitted him perfectly. Perhaps this information could be of use to the gentleman concerned.

R.M., Howick, South Africa A. Thank you for supplying information about this technique, somewhat akin to plas

ter-casting. I am sure the tailors at Addison & Steele will be amused to learn about it.
