At a public meeting to petition against Church-rates, Ecclesiastical Courts,

and Stipendiary Chaplains in Poor-law Unions, at Newcastle, on Monday morning, a resolution proposed by the Chartists to adjourn till the evening was carried. The Mayor, who presided at the first meeting, refused to be present at the second ; which was attended chiefly by working-men. The Dissenters' petitions, however, were passed.
