Animals of New Zealand. By Captain F. W. Hutton and

James Drummond. (Whitcombe and Tombs. 155. net.)—The list of the New Zealand animals is curious. The mammalia number twenty- four species. But of these, two only, both bats, are of the land ; the rest are marine. There are about two hundred birds, fifteen reptiles, lizards, or efts, and one amphibious frog. The Maoris introduced the dog and the rat. European introductions are, of course, numerous. The volume should take its place as the book of reference on the subject.
